Kosh Agach

The town of Kosh Agach is the regional center for the southeastern part of Altai Republic. It is an ancient trading site, once part of the Silk Route and now home to a Mongolian Bazaar that attracts residents from villages all over Altai. The town sits on permafrost on the flat, treeless Chuisky Steppe, where the altitude is about 5000 ft. and the climate is extremely dry and cold. Mountains surround the steppe in the distance.
